Costa Rica, February 2025

Field work in the Eastern Tropical Pacific, based in Costa Rica (Gulf of Papagayo and Sámara Bay). Partnerships with the University of Haifa (Tali Mass and Dar Golomb), Universidad de Costa Rica, and Proyecto Corals de Sámara. This work aimed to explore the effect of upwelling systems on coral reefs as potential refugia environments. A physical-chemical assessment of the area was done through nutrients profiling, trace metal analysis, CTD + chlorophyll profiling and carbonate chemistry. An assessment of the ecology and biology of the coral reefs was done utilizing photophysiology, photoquadrats, and photogrammetry.
